North Richland Hills Tidbits

North Richland Hills, Texas is located in Tarrant County nine miles northeast of Fort Worth, Texas. This community started when a man named W Peters decided to allow 600 families into the region as part of a land grant within a three year period.

During the summer of 1848, families started to arrive. General Edward Tarrant was the namesake of Tarrant County, which was established in 1849. The community of Birdville, which is adjacent to what is currently known as the southwestern boundary of North Richland Hills was named as the first county seat. For over ten decades, the region remained a rural ranching and farming community.

A man named Clarence started subdividing his 268 acre dairy farm into a suburban development in 1952 in the region that is currently known as Cummings Drive. Although the annexation was denied, the Civic League in the community of North Richland Hills tried to have the region annexed to Richland Hills, then voted to develop their own community in 1953. That same year, the 268 acres of the Jones farm formally became incorporated as the City of North Richland Hills after an election was held. The population of the community of north Richland Hills was about 500 people.

Some local families were the namesakes if the first section of streets in the community of North Richland Hills. In 1954, another section of streets was added, which was named after automobiles. Some 188 homes comprised the first portion of the subdivision, which was restricted to masonry and brick construction.

The boundary of North Richland Hills was within two miles of Smithfield, by 1957 and Smithfield was annexed to the community of North Richland Hills in 1960 at which time the population of the community was starting to increase as was 8,662 people and by 1970 had increased again to 16,514 people. The population of the community of north Richland Hills continued to rapidly increase and according to the census that was taken in 1980, the population of the community was 30,592 people and according to the 1990 census the population was of the community was 45,895 people. The population of the community of north Richland hills continued to increase and was 55,635 people by 2000 and 63,343 people by 2010.

These days, the community of North Richland Hills is a suburb of Fort Worth and located in Tarrant County. The community is the third largest community in Tarrant County. According to Money magazine, the community of North Richland Hills was chosen as one of the top 100 places to live in America in 2006. The primary highways and streets within the community of North Richland Hills include the Precinct Line Road, North Tarrant parkway, Bedford/Euless Road, the Mid Cities Boulevard, Davis Boulevard, and several others. The community of North Richland Hills is home to a portion of the Keller Independent School District as well as the Birdville Independent School District.

In 1964, the community of North Richland Hills adopted a charter to operate under that provided for a Council/Manager type of city government. The City Council is comprised of seven city council members and a mayor that are all elected at large. The city manager oversees the everyday operations within the city while the city council adopts the annual operating budget for the city, establishes policies, and determines the overall objectives and goals and objectives for the city.

Some of the attractions that are close to the community of North Richland Hills include the Six Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Collection of Western Art by Sid Richardson, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Arlington Museum of Art, and the NRH20 Waterpark.

The NRH20 Waterpark that features many different waterslides is located in the community of North Richland Hills. This waterpark also has an artificial ocean that allows swimmer to just relax on the Endless River or float on the waves. The community of North Richland Hills also has many other parks that include Norich Park, Richfield Park, Fossil Creek Park, and the North Richland Hills City Park. Shopping can be enjoyed at the North Hills Shopping Center.

Close to the community of North Richland Hills is the Fort Worth Meacham International Airport. The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as the Texas Christian University are also located close by.

In 2012, the population of the community of North Richland hills was 65,290 people, which represented a 17.4% increase in the population since 2000. There is 48.1% of the population in the community of North Richland hills, or 31,405 people who are males and 51.9% of that same population who are females.
